Public affairs and policy

As part of the BPC’s mission to advocate for the work of our Registrants, we continue to engage with and advise policymakers across Government, Parliament, and the devolved administrations. We’re also committed to showcasing positive psychoanalytic work by our Registrants across the country, in the public and private sectors.

Through engaging with policy stakeholders and public discourse around mental health, we promote psychoanalytic thinking and the staggering impact it can have on the lives of patients.

We seek to support the Government around its stated ambition to reform mental health services in the UK. This engagement has included meetings with policymakers, briefing events, new research, and proposals to improve access to psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

Recently, the Government issued a call for evidence in relation to a new mental health strategy for England. The BPC responded to the call for evidence, drawing on the work and experience within our psychoanalytic professional community. We believe that meaningful integration of psychoanalytic thinking and practice in NHS services would lead to better-quality, person-centred care that tackles issues at their root.
