Jane O'Rourke
Child, Young Person and Family Psychodynamic Psychotherapist
About Jane O'Rourke
I am a child, adolescent and family psychotherapist working across the NHS, in schools and in private practice. I support children, young people and families with a range of emotional and relational difficulties.
I trained at the Tavistock Clinic, where my training and work was grounded in psychodynamic and psychoanalytic thinking, alongside an understanding of developmental neuroscience. A psychodynamic approach means paying attention to how early experiences and unconscious patterns may influence current thoughts, feelings and relationships. It allows space to explore difficulties in depth, with the aim of fostering greater understanding and lasting emotional change.
I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches that are helpful for people who have experienced trauma or difficulties in relationships. I have a particular interest in supporting parents to better understand and respond to their children’s emotional needs. This can be transformative for family life and help children to thrive.
In addition to my psychotherapy work, I am a qualified yoga teacher with a specialism in therapeutic yoga. For many years I ran a therapeutic yoga group in the Trauma Service at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust. I now offer therapeutic yoga in the community, using movement and breath to support emotional regulation and recovery from trauma.
I am also the founder of MINDinMIND, a platform for mental health professionals which shares knowledge and insights from leading clinicians and researchers working with children and families.
