Couple Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist
About Marianne Da Costa
I’m a couple psychoanalytic psychotherapist. I completed an intensive five-year couple therapy training at London’s Tavistock Relationships—a leading Centre for psychotherapy and relationship counselling.
I specialise in the psychoanalytic model, meaning I help people make sense of how their past experiences and personal histories can shape present relationships and ways of relating. As these things are often unconscious, I work with you to bring them into consciousness and help break patterns that can feel stuck. The decision to seek couples therapy can be a difficult step to take. I offer a non-judgmental reflective space. I welcome couples of all ages, social, cultural backgrounds and sexual orientations. I offer both in-person and online therapy.
Before training as a psychotherapist, I worked for many years in special educational needs with neurodivergent children and young people, and those experiencing emotional and behavioural difficulties related to childhood trauma. Consequently, I bring an understanding of how neurodivergent experiences, our experiences of education and adverse childhood circumstances influence and shape who we are.
Issues I can help with:
Communication difficulties
Parenting concerns
Affairs
Depression or anxiety in one or both partners
Sexual problems
Distressing, repetitive arguments
Disconnect and distance
Anger and conflict
