Lucy McDonald

Psychodynamic Counsellor

About Lucy McDonald

I am an experienced psychodynamic counsellor, an Accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and hold an MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy (with Distinction). I have broad-ranging clinical experience, which includes NHS work in a Specialist Psychotherapy service, Student Counselling at two top London universities, and setting up and running a counselling service in a Drama School. I currently work part-time in a Music and Drama Conservatoire, alongside my private practice.

I have also undertaken further training in Supervision at the British Psychotherapy Foundation (BPF).

A psychodynamic approach is about exploring how you interact with people and how your patterns of behaviour have developed in response to your life experiences and key relationships. You may have a specific aim for the therapy but beyond this, the purpose for me is to try to help you understand yourself better and to like yourself better. Being more aware of aspects of yourself or your behaviour that you don't like will allow you to reflect on how or why this might be the case and can lead to change or acceptance.
