Jorge Camarena Altamirano

I offer adult psychodynamic psychotherapy in London. I provide a confidential and reflective setting in which emotional difficulties, patterns in relationships, and experiences that may feel confusing, overwhelming, or stuck can be explored. I work with adults who are seeking a deeper understanding of themselves and their inner world, in relation to both current difficulties and longer-standing concerns.

My clinical approach is psychodynamic and psychoanalytic, informed by mentalisation-based thinking. I am interested in how early experiences, unconscious processes, and internal and relational patterns shape emotional life in the present. Psychotherapy offers a space to think together about feelings, thoughts, and behaviours as they emerge within the therapeutic relationship, supporting the development of emotional understanding and the capacity for change.

I have extensive experience working with adults with complex presentations, including anxiety, depression, trauma, difficulties in relationships, identity concerns, problems with emotional regulation, and experiences of psychosis or personality-related distress.

Alongside my private practice, I have been working as a Clinical Lead Psychotherapist in the NHS for over 17 years. I am also involved in teaching and supervision on postgraduate psychotherapy training programmes. My clinical background includes work across community, rehabilitation, and inpatient mental health services, and I bring this breadth and depth of experience into my private practice in a thoughtful and containing way.

I offer once- or twice-weekly psychotherapy, both short- and longer-term, depending on individual needs. Sessions are conducted within a reliable and ethically grounded framework, with careful attention to pace, safety, and the development of a trusting therapeutic relationship.
