I am a psychoanalyst. My original professional training was as a medical doctor, qualifying in 1972. I then became a psychiatrist who specialised in psychotherapy, becoming a consultant medical psychotherapist in the NHS in Cheshire from 1986. I trained as a psychoanalyst alongside my NHS post, qualifying in 2001. I retired from the NHS in 2012.
