Jenissa Tanna
Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist
About Jenissa Tanna
I have worked within the NHS as a Medical Doctor since 2002, specialising first as a psychiatrist, and then as a medical psychotherapist. I went on to further train as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist in both group and individual work (once weekly-three times weekly) at the Tavistock and Portman clinic. Since 2017, I have been working as a consultant in medical psychotherapy initially at the Brent psychotherapy service and then at South West London NHS Trust leading a Psychodynamic psychotherapy service as part of a complex needs department. I provide group and individual therapy as well as supervision of training psychotherapists and psychiatrists. I teach widely and have been a seminar leader for the introductory/foundation counselling and psychotherapy one year course at the Tavistock clinic for just under 10 years. I have now joined the post graduate Complex Trauma: The Tavistock Model (D19) course facilitating their weekly student experiential group. I continue to privately clinically supervise students on the M58 course (the Tavistock’s psychoanalytic qualifying course) and am seeing a limited number of individually referred private patients outside of the NHS.
I have completed a masters in Philosophy previously and am currently studying a contemporary fine art course at City Lit. I am interested in how these disciplines can be both distinct yet also overlap and valuably inform one another in a creative way.
