Course Tutor – MSc Early Child Development and Clinical Applications

Hours: Part-time: 14 hours per week (two days)

Salary: £46,000 per annum FTE, plus 6% contributory pension scheme

Anna Freud is a world-leading mental health charity for children, young people and their families. Our mission is to close the gap in wellbeing and mental health by advancing, translating, delivering, and sharing the best science and practice with everyone who impacts the lives of children, young people and their families. More information about Anna Freud is available on our website: www.annafreud.org/about-us/.

We value diversity and aim to have diverse workforce that reflects the community and our service users, in line with our vision, values and inclusion commitments. We encourage applications from all sections of the community.

The Course Tutor is an essential role for the MSc Early Child Development and Clinical Applications (MSc Early Dev). This two-year MSc provides a comprehensive understanding of early child development (prenatal to 5 years of age), as well as how the early years impact later development. Psychoanalytic thinking is the primary organising approach but other perspectives (e.g. developmental, neuroscience) are embedded throughout teaching. The post-holder will work alongside the Programme Director(s), Module Leads, and the other Course Tutor to support the delivery of half of the modules of the MSc. Responsibilities will involve planning and delivering weekly workshops to complement lectures. The aim of these workshops is to clarify main concepts of the teaching, help students make links across the teaching of different modules, and encourage students’ critical thinking on the topics covered. Outside of teaching hours, Course Tutors have other responsibilities such as personal tutoring, overseeing assessment and feedback for some modules, as well as undertaking marking and planning future teaching sessions.

The successful candidate will be qualified in a relevant field (please refer to the Job Profile), demonstrate very good knowledge of psychoanalytic theories and early child development, along with previous experience of delivering teaching and/or supervision.

The post-holder will sit in Anna Freud’s successful Education and Training Division and will have the opportunity to attend interesting talks and lectures within Anna Freud. In addition to employment at Anna Freud, the Course Tutor will also have an honorary contract at University College London (UCL), which is consistently ranked as one of the top ten universities in the world and is No. 2 in research power in the Research Excellence Framework 2021. This honorary contract will offer some UCL staff benefits.
