Annual Research Lecture 2026
Book ticketsOrganised by:
British Psychoanalytical Society (incorporating the Institute of Psychoanalysis)
Description
Marianne Leuzinger-Bohleber will discuss how the Sigmund Freud Institute evolved its research approach over 16 years – from a primarily theoretical focus to one that is more inclusive, clinically practical, and socially engaged.
She will highlight efforts to embrace diverse methods in psychoanalytic research, focusing on two major studies:
The LAC Study, comparing long-term psychoanalysis with cognitive-behavioural therapy for chronic depression.
The MODE Study, which builds on this by adding neuroscientific measures to evaluate outcomes.
Overall, the talk shows how psychoanalytic research is becoming more evidence-based, interdisciplinary, and relevant to real-world clinical practice.
