Description
Taking place across three Saturdays, this Assessment Skills training is suitable for psychotherapists who wish to further develop their skills in this particularly interesting area of work, as well as recently qualified psychotherapists. The training follows the process from initial contact with a potential patient to its conclusion, whether privately or through an institution.
Course dates:
• Saturday 3 October 2026, 10am–4.30pm (lunch provided)
• Saturday 10 October 2026, 10am–4.30pm (lunch provided)
• Saturday 28 November 2026, 10am–1pm
The course covers decisions about whether to offer psychotherapy, thinking about case complexity, formulating after assessment, risk, and managing consultations where psychoanalytic or psychodynamic psychotherapy is considered unsuitable. Teaching will use large- and small-group discussions. Each participant will undertake a two-session assessment consultation for bpf Clinical Services and attend two individual supervision sessions during the assessment period.
Trainers: Geri Dogmetchi, Michele Foux and Joao Botas. Relevant reading material will be circulated. Following the 10 October meeting, participants may offer the two-session assessment consultation and attend two individual supervision sessions; supervision costs £70 per meeting and is paid directly to the Assessment Supervisor.
