Description
The Student Counselling Service at Birkbeck, University of London launched The Birkbeck Training Series
Now in its ninth year, the series turns its attention to ‘Where Therapy Begins: Depth, Formulation and Impact in Brief Therapy’.
Before therapeutic work can unfold, counsellors and clients must navigate a series of important early steps: consultations, assessments, formulations, and the establishment of a therapeutic relationship. These initial encounters often hold the foundations of the work that follows, shaping expectations, meaning-making, safety, and engagement.
Bringing together theory, clinical reflection, and practical application, the series will examine both the possibilities and challenges of brief therapeutic work, from making the most of first sessions through to developing formulations that support purposeful and effective interventions.
In this 3-part CPD series we will be looking to explore:
• Brief Encounters: Working at Depth Within the Limits of Time by Cate Lyon
• When Your First Meeting with a Client May Be Your Last by Windy Dryden
• Clinical Formulation in Therapeutic Practice by Bridget Townsend
Suitable for counsellors, psychotherapists and mental health practitioners working across a range of therapeutic modalities within higher education and other short-term services.
We offer discounted tickets for counsellors in training, honorary counsellors, and group bookings. For further details about the trainings, speakers, if you have any questions or would like assistance with your booking, please contact counselling-services@bbk.ac.uk.
