Description
Join us for the next instalment of our Political Mind series, featuring David Bell.
This talk explores how genuine understanding is displaced by its “pretenders” – dogma, ritual, moralism, and rigid ideology. Drawing on psychoanalysis, Bell examines how cultures explain themselves while concealing deeper truths, and how market ideology has come to appear as unquestioned “normality.”
Reflecting on inequality, welfare, and socio-economic crisis, he considers the forms of subjectivity produced by contemporary capitalism and the ways knowledge of the world is increasingly replaced by its substitutes.
