Description
Three Immersive Clinical Workshops with Dr Giuseppe Civitarese.
With Dr Giuseppe Civitarese.
These three consecutive clinical workshops offer an immersion in psychoanalytic field theory through detailed clinical material, giving participants the opportunity to explore how field theory comes alive in the analytic encounter.
Dr Giuseppe Civitarese will move from theory into the clinical encounter, using his own published clinical cases to explore what happens when we pay close attention to the field that develops between patient and therapist. Across the three workshops, participants will stay closely with the clinical material, following Civitarese’s thinking about what is happening in the room and how the field shifts and changes through the analytic process. Particular attention will be given to moments when the field becomes especially vivid or difficult to think about including impasse, intense affect, enactment, projective identification, reverie and dreaming.
The workshops will also explore the analyst’s own experience as part of this process. Thoughts, feelings, images and bodily responses may provide important clues about what is being communicated within the field, including experiences that have not yet found words or representation.
A further theme will be interpretation as transformation. Rather than simply communicating an understanding of what something means, an interpretation can change the emotional atmosphere of the analytic encounter and create new possibilities for thought, symbolisation and communication.
Through sustained engagement with clinical material, these workshops offer an opportunity not simply to learn about psychoanalytic field theory, but to immerse yourself in its clinical application and in Civitarese’s distinctive way of thinking about the analytic relationship.
