Writing and the Unconscious
Book ticketsOrganised by:
British Psychoanalytical Society (incorporating the Institute of Psychoanalysis)
Description
This series explores connections between literature and psychoanalysis, focusing on the ways both clinical and creative practices depend upon acts of listening to what occurs beneath the surface – of both the self and language. Across talks, readings and discussions we will consider how writing may be used to tune into the unconscious, and how literary and psychoanalytic forms each attempt to make psychic life legible.
The programme brings together clinicians, writers and artists including Adam Phillips, Kit Fan, Karen McCarthy Woolf, Stephen Rudder, Rey Conquer and Perwana Nazif. Topics range from R. D. Laing’s ‘inner space’ and a case study by Françoise Dolto to contemporary writing on migration, enclosure and psychic life.
These talks are geared toward a broad audience across psychiatry, psychotherapy, literature and the arts.
